- China Unicom recently announced that its second phase of the WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) network construction plan, which involved seven provinces and 50 cities, is set for commercialization, the Sina News reported on December 31. As of December 31, 2009, the network coverage included 335 cities as originally predicted in September 2009. Except Tibet, China Unicom's WCDMA network has covered all prefecture-level cities nationwide.

 

- China Mobile recently announced that the company completed the third phase of the TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) network construction, with the network coverage including 70% of the prefecture-level cities as of year-end 2009, chinanews.com reported on December 30. Notably, the network has completed 100% of prefecture-level cities in eastern China, with a total of 100,000 base stations being installed. Meanwhile, China Mobile is projected to kick off the fourth-phase of the TD-SCDMA network construction in 2010. Should the network construction go as planned, China Mobile's TD-SCDMA network coverage will include more than 330 cities, according to the same source.

 

- Following the first round of tests on TD-LTE (TD-Long Term Evolution) conducted by China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), six telecom equipment suppliers jointly announced that they are projected to begin the second round of field tests soon, the SinoCast Daily Business Beat News reported on December 29. Companies to be participated in the second round of field tests include Huawei, ZTE, Motorola, and Datang Telecom, Potevio, and Nokia Siemens Networks, according to the same source.
